Traffic stop leads to arrest for felony firearm

LAUREL, DEL – On July 7 at approximately 9:27 p.m., a Laurel Police Department officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a black Audi A4 at the Carvel Gardens apartment complex. The officer stopped the vehicle for a registration violation.

The officer made contact with the driver, who refused to provide a driver’s license, registration, or insurance for the vehicle. The driver was eventually identified as Michael N Sylvester, a 29-year-old male from Laurel, Delaware. Further checks of the driver’s license and registration status revealed that his license was suspended. The vehicle was not registered or insured.

During the investigation, the driver was discovered to be concealing a loaded firearm in his waistband and did not have a valid concealed carry permit for the weapon. He was subsequently arrested and his vehicle was impounded.

Sylvester was transported to the Laurel Police Department for processing, where she was charged with the following crimes:

-Concealed Carrying of a Type A Deadly Weapon (Class D Felony)

– Driving with a suspended/revoked license (misdemeanor)

– Failure to have compulsory insurance (crime)

– Fictitious/cancelled registration (violation)

– Driving an unregistered motor vehicle (offence)

He was arraigned before Magistrates Court 7 and released on $5,202 unsecured bail.
