The room in question was small, with no windows.

It goes without saying that housing in Delhi is extremely expensive, and finding a decent place to rent or buy can be a real hassle. Delhi is one of the most expensive cities in India to rent a home, with prices skyrocketing. Today, a user on X sparked a discussion on social media after posting a photo of a “premium” room in Old Rajendra Nagar that his broker tried to rent for Rs 10,000 per month. The room in question was a small, windowless room. It had a small bed and a table that took up the entire space. It was located in the basement, and the tenant had to share a shared bathroom with six people.

“This is a premium room at Rs 10,000/month in Old Rajendra Nagar as per broker. Can anyone help me find a room,” wrote X user Rishabh Tiwari while sharing the picture on the microblogging platform.

In a follow-up message, the user also explained, “I didn’t book this room because it will be stuffy. If anyone has a good room in the same budget of $10,000 near or in Patel Nagar, please help me out.”

Mr Tiwari shared this post a few days ago. It has since been viewed over 622,000 times. In the comments section, some users suggested other places where one can get a better deal for less or the same price, while others questioned the justification for the “premium” tag, given the size of the room and the apparent lack of ventilation.

“This is insane… the owners must be wizards… there is no window in this room,” wrote one user. To this, Mr Tiwari replied: “This is a basement. If you look at the other rooms you will become paranoid, and the best part is he is acting like he is doing me a favour.”

“That thing sticking out of the drop ceiling is covered in mold. The side leading into that drop ceiling is covered in mold and what looks like an electrical wire or maybe a beam. The mold is showing deterioration and will only get worse. This whole house must already have an existing mold/infestation,” another commented.

“Are you kidding me? This is premium quality, two fans and two probably dead people watching over you (unlimited security) and anything under your arm has a long reach,” wrote a third user.

“Don’t go to old Rajendra Nagar. It’s so bloated there. Try towards Patel Nagar etc or a little further. The metro is already there so it won’t take you more than 10 minutes to travel,” suggested a fourth user. “Take the metro from Rajendra Nagar to Jhandewalan. At Jhandewalan, ask for paidal raasta till Jhandewalan temple. Go 100 meters towards the temple and you will find a house on the left. Enquire there for a rental. Peaceful area, 2nd station from Rajendra Nagar. Good for 2 or more people,” commented a user.
