Frodo was the protagonist of The Lord of the Ringsbut he could not have destroyed the One Ring without the help of his allies. Sam was his constant companion, carrying him up the final steps of the slopes of Mount Doom, while the other members of the Fellowship valiantly fought Sauron’s forces to keep the Dark Lord distracted from Frodo’s quest. Over time, fans have given these characters their due, sometimes even calling them the true heroes of the story. Yet this has led many to overlook and underestimate Frodo’s contributions to the narrative. Some claim that he was a passive character who let his friends do all the hard work, which is an unfair assessment of his role in The Lord of the Rings.
