Man who died after incident on Suffolk beach was ‘in the wrong place’ | UK | News

The family of a man who died following an incident on a Suffolk beach after being “in the wrong place at the wrong time” have paid emotional tribute to him.

On Saturday 10 August, shortly after 9.20pm, Suffolk Police were called by the ambulance service to reports of an assault on Felixstowe Promenade near Undercliff Road West, with one person injured. The injured man was seen with his dog, a brown and white Staffordshire bull terrier and boxer cross.

The following morning (Sunday 11 August) at 10.30am, police were called by the ambulance service to a property in Carr Road where the injured man had been found dead. Subject to confirmation at the official inquest, he was identified as Charlie Stephen David Greaves, aged 25 and from Ipswich.

Preliminary results of a Home Office post mortem examination indicated the cause of death was head trauma, pending further investigation. Officers arrested a 28-year-old man from Felixstowe on Monday 12 August on suspicion of murder. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was later released on bail to return to police on 7 October.

Charlie Greaves’ family paid the following tribute via Suffolk Police: “Charlie was a kind young man who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had been with his partner for eight years and loved going on holiday with his family. He adored his grandparents and helped to look after them.

“His pet, Princess, was a foster dog he adopted about nine months ago who brought him so much joy. He also loved to cook and listen to music at the top of his lungs. He had a heart bigger than Ipswich and loved to chat – he would talk to everyone. He made an impact on the lives of everyone he met. He was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.”

Officers continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed an altercation or has information about the incident to contact police. This includes anyone who has CCTV or a video doorbell between Ranelagh Road and Undercliff Road West, or who may have been in the area between 8.30pm and 9.20pm and may have a dash cam.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Investigation Team, quoting crime reference 37/45286/24.
