A group of prisoners took hostages at a prison in Russia’s southern Volgograd region on Friday and killed at least one staff member, the country’s prison service said.

“During a session of the disciplinary commission, inmates took members of the prison staff hostage,” the prison administration said in a statement. “Measures are currently being taken to free the hostages. There are casualties.”
