Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello in ‘Short n’ Sweet’: Fan Theories

Sabrina Carpenter has released her sixth studio album, Short and sweetFriday (August 23), and fans already have theories about some of the songs — including a love triangle between herself, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.

It all started when Carpenter and Mendes were spotted spending time together in February 2023, a year after the “In My Blood” singer split from Cabello in November 2021. Just two months later, Cabello and Mendes were spotted rekindling their romance at Coachella.

Following the release of Short and sweetFans have noticed that some of the album’s lyrics seemingly reference this situation. “Your car drove all the way from L.A. to her thighs/ Palm Springs looks nice, but who’s by your side?/ Damn, she kind of looks like the girl you passed/ At least that’s what you said,” she sings on “Coincidence.”

Several other songs also tell the story of a man she’s interested in going back to his ex-girlfriend. “We never talk about how you found God in your ex, always, making sure the phone was face down, it seems like overnight I’m just the bitch you hate now,” she sings on “Sharpest Tool.”

Then came the video for “Taste,” in which Carpenter follows the same theme as she sings, “I heard you guys are back together and if it’s true/ You’ll just have to taste me when he kisses you.” Death suits him so well-Jenna Ortega, who fans believe was chosen to portray Cabello in the music video because they are both 5’2″ Latina brunettes. In the video, the duo find ways to kill each other, before eventually teaming up to take down the man they both dated.
