James Gunn responds to rumors about ‘The Batman Part II’ cancellation

Despite persistent rumors regarding the future of “The Batman Part II,” DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has reassured fans that the highly anticipated sequel remains on track for release.

Concerns have arisen following recent delays and casting speculation, but Gunn addressed those fears directly via Instagram.

In response to a fan comment on his Instagram post from filming Superman, Gunn dismissed rumors about the cancellation of “The Batman Part II” and Matt Reeves’ associated Bat-Verse trilogy. He said: “Of course not,” accompanied by a rolling-eye emoji, highlighting the baseless nature of cancellation fears.

Robert Pattinson will return as The Dark Knight, with Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis and Paul Dano are also expected to return, while Barry Keoghan’s Joker could have a larger role. Gunn has dismissed reports that Boyd Holbrook is Harvey Dent as “false.”

Warner Bros. announced “The Batman Part II” at CinemaCon 2022. Although Gunn and Peter Safran lead the new DC Universe, “The Batman” films are separate projects under the DC Elseworlds banner.

The original film was a success, grossing $772 million and receiving three Academy Award nominations. It also inspired Max’s spinoff series “The Penguin,” starring Colin Farrell, scheduled for release in September.
