The Missouri woman was caught trying to spike her husband’s Mountain Dew with Roundup week killer because he was “not appreciative” of the 50th birthday party she threw for him, Law and Crime reported.

Peters’ husband called the sheriff’s office on June 24, believing that she was trying to poison him.

He told police that no one in the home drank Mountain Dew except for him, however, around May 1, he noticed the drink starting to taste “odd,” Law and Crime reported.

The husband said he ignored the “weird” taste but became sick within a few weeks.

He developed a sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, and was coughing up a “brown/yellow thick mucus,” according to Law and Crime.

When the husband drank Mountain Dew outside of the home, it tasted normal, however, all of the two-liter bottles in the garage had the strange taste.

That’s when he grew suspicious that the sodas were being tampered with and set up a camera in the garage.

“(The husband) said the video showed Michelle (Peters) taking a two-liter bottle of Diet Mountain Dew out of the garage refrigerator and a bottle of Roundup weed killer into the house,” read an affidavit obtained by Law and Crime.

“(He) said that Michelle (Peters) then returned the soda to the refrigerator and put the Roundup back on the shelf in the garage.”

Peters’ husband said he became “afraid for his life,” and gave a copy of the footage to another person – whose name is redacted from the document.

He also gave the person the bottle of Mountain Dew that his wife put in the garage refrigerator “in case he died from being poisoned.”

“(The husband) said he changed his routine and would put new and untampered Mountain Dew bottles in the refrigerator. (He) said that every time he put a new bottle in the refrigerator, Michelle (Peters) would put Roundup in it,” read the affidavit.

“(The husband) said the original bottle of Roundup was now nearly empty and he noticed that there was a new, unopened bottle of Roundup that recently showed up on the garage shelf.”

Peters’ husband told his wife that he had been feeling sick and she allegedly said that he “probably had Covid and to stay away from the grandkids,” according to Law and Crime.

He added that he caught Peters on movie putting the insecticide in his Mountain Dew,

When asked about a motive for his wife’s actions, Peters’ husband said she might be having an affair or could be after the payout from his $500,000 life insurance policy.

At first, Peters denied putting Roundup in her husband’s drink, claiming that she was mixing the beverage and insecticide to make a “weed killer she saw on Pinterest,” according to the affidavit.

What is glyphosate?

Glyphosate is an herbicide that is applied to leaves to kill weeds, regulate plant growth, and ripen specific crops.

Humans can be exposed to glyphosate if they get it on their skin, eyes, or breathe it in.

They can also swallow glyphosate if they eat or smoke after applying it without washing their hands first.

Symptoms of glyphosate exposure include:

  • Eye or skin irritation
  • Irritation in the nose and throat
  • Increased saliva
  • Burns in the mouth and throat
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

However, investigators confronted Peters with the video evidence and the bottles her husband took from the garage.

Peters allegedly confessed, saying she “should have just divorced (her husband).”

“Michelle again admitted to putting the insecticide from the basement in the two-liter Mountain Dew bottle and placing it into the garage refrigerator during the evening of 6-23-2024.

“Michelle said she was mad at (her husband) because she had thrown him a 50th birthday party and he was not appreciative,” read the affidavit.

To fart said she put the Roundup in her drinks “to be mean.”

Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, can cause multiple organ failure and death if ingested, according to the National Pesticide Information Center.

Peters is being held without bond at the Laclede County Detention Center.

She is scheduled to appear in short on July 2.
