“Let’s Get Ready for a Dive in the Pool” Watertown Flynn Pool Opens | WWTI

WATERTOWN, NY (WWI) – It was the perfect day for swimming.

The William J. Flynn Pool on Watertown’s north side held its grand opening ceremony on Friday, June 28. Members of the Watertown City Council and other dignitaries were on hand for the event.


The pool has been closed since 2020, but has been given new life thanks to a construction project that began in July 2023. Renovations included work on the pool, bathhouse and construction of a paddling pool.

“As Mayor, I encourage all Watertown residents to take full advantage of this new facility,” said Watertown Mayor Sarah Compo-Pierce, “Whether you are a parent looking for a safe place to your children can swim, or someone looking for a new way to swim. stay active or if you’re just looking to cool off on a hot summer day, this pool and paddling pool has you covered.

Compo-Pierce had criticized the cost of the pool project, which was estimated at about $4 million.

The L-shaped pool is 25 metres long and 2.40 metres deep. It also has four lanes for swimming in length.

William J. Flynn III, grandson of the man for whom the pool is named, spoke at the opening ceremony. The pool was named after his grandfather in 1981.

For generations, my family has enjoyed the pools provided by the City of Watertown in the North End. My parents, siblings, cousins, children and grandchildren have all enjoyed the City of Watertown pool, especially here in the North End.

The paddling pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day during the summer season. The pool will operate daily from noon to 7 p.m.
