Prince Harry: “Why Prince Harry? It’s shocking, he’s privileged’: War hero’s mother opposes award

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, was chosen to receive the Pat Tillman Award at a sporting event hosted by ESPN for his work with injured veterans at the Invictus Games. The award was named for an American war hero killed in Afghanistan. Pat Tillman’s mother opposed the award and expressed shock at the choice.

“I am shocked why they have chosen such a controversial and divisive individual to receive this award,” the mother told the Mail.

“There are beneficiaries who are a much better fit. There are people who work in the veteran community who are doing tremendous things to help veterans. These people don’t have the money, the resources, the connections “I think these types of individuals should be recognized,” said Pat Tillman’s mother.

Prince Harry will receive his award on July 11 in Los Angeles. A petition was also filed to ask the authorities to reconsider their choice.

What is the Pat Tillman Award?
The Pat Tillman Award recognizes an individual with a strong connection to sports and who has served others in a way that echoes the spirit of former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman. Prince Harry was chosen for this award because of his own military service, as a forward air controller and Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan. It’s also because of Harry’s Invictus Foundation and his commitment to supporting the mental and physical health of injured service members through sport.

Footballer Marcus Rashford won the award in 2021 for raising money to feed schoolchildren during Covid lockdowns.

Sports analyst Pat McAfee criticized the decision and said Prince Harry was no longer a prince. “Why do the ESPYs do this? If you do something like that, you know that the immediate reaction from humans, from sports fans and people with common sense and intelligence, will be something like, “Hey, don’t put our guy with that guy.” did he declare.
