Biden plans to meet with Democratic governors, seek to shore up their support after volatile debate

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden plans to meet with Democratic governors to try to shore up support among his party’s top leaders after the shaky results of last week’s debate. The discussion will take place Wednesday and will likely be mostly virtual, according to two people familiar with Biden’s plan. They insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss a schedule that had not yet been made public. The president has also announced a largely politics-free post-debate schedule, including plans to hold Fourth of July celebrations at the White House for Thursday’s holiday. The meeting is the strongest indication yet that Biden is trying to allay fears among some Democrats that he won’t be able to sustain a campaign.
